Safety

Many different factors affect everyday safety.

Falls are the most common accidents requiring hospital care among older people.

Violent behaviour is not acceptable, and any of us may encounter it.

It is important to seek help and not be left alone with the problem. Help is available for both victims and perpetrators of violence.

By accepting help, you will not be left alone.

Service path: Fall prevention

1. Assessing the risk of falling

Preventing falls is important; it improves wellbeing, increases safety at home, and helps maintain independent living. Falls can be prevented independently or together with loved ones. Fall prevention involves several different areas, and there are ready-made tests and guides available for them.

2. How can I reduce my risk of falling?

Assistive devices make it safer to get around. If you feel that assistive devices could help you in your daily life, ask your doctor or nurse about them.

Service path: Violence

1. Assess your situation

Violence can take many forms and be difficult to recognise. It is not always visible on the outside, but its effects can be profound and long-lasting. It is important to stop and reflect on your own situation: do you experience insecurity, fear, or controlling behaviour in your relationships, or do you behave violently yourself?

2. Ask for help here

In the North Savo region, there are several organisations that can provide help for you or your loved one in ending violence and recovering from it. Guidance, counselling and support are offered to those who have experienced violence or the threat of it, to those who have used violence, and to those who have been exposed to it.
