Pielaveden kotiseutumuseo
The local history museum of Pielavesi is located in Teijunmäki and it was established in 1958. The museum consists of 6 different buildings. The main building is the old rectory, which has four rooms. The main room is decorated according to the practices of early twentieth century, with men’s and women’s halves.
The museum’s general exhibition displays the local handcrafts and different aspects of human life, from birth to death and from everyday life to celebration. Two smaller rooms display exhibitions completed between 1999 and 2000: the shoemaker’s room displays not only shoemaker’s tools but also tanner’s tools. The second room, the rectory chamber, is decorated in the spirit of an early 20th century rectory.
In addition to the main building, the visitors can visit a smoke cottage and fish-hut, which exhibition on the fishing tradition of Pielavesi was completed in the summer 2004. The courtyard also has a windmill, loft barn and drying barn.
During summer, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions and various events.
